I almost didn't manage to squeeze a training run in today and that would've been disastrous...considering this was only day 2 of my new training effort. I got home from the office at 5:30PM and immediately jumped into my running clothes and my new pair of Hoka Bondi B that I'm trying to break in before the Connemarathon 40 Miler in Ireland next month.
I left my house shortly after without a real plan other than getting a minimum of 5 miles in. Since I had promised my better half to pick up dinner after, I decided to keep it short and fast. The weather was unseasonably hot again with temps in the low 80s still. I opted to run the short UAH figure 8 loop, giving me a little under 5 miles. I also decided to keep my heart rate and thereby my pace up the entire run. When it was all said and done, I had run the loop a minute per mile faster than ever before. Now there is two options, one, I never really pushed my pace before or I really had a good training run. Today, I'd say my glass was half full and I had a good run. Granted, it wasn't even 10K pace, but I did push just enough to make it worthwhile.
The Bondi Bs felt like pillows on my feet. I think they will be the perfect choice for my road ultra next month. I will write a more complete review once I've worn these shoes in race conditions.
