It's official, while I did manage to oversleep by an hour, that did not deter me from heading over to Richard's house for our first official ultra training session after a 2 week recovery period that consisted of little more than maintenance runs. I arrived at Richard's house at 5:30AM and we took off right away. It appeared that Richard managed his allergies a lot better than the last two times we headed out for an early morning run. I'm sure actually taking allergy meds before heading out had a lot to do with it.
It really showed in our run as we shaved off almost 20 minutes over 10 miles versus the same run last Tuesday. Hopefully, this is a sign that both Rich and I are on our way of full recovery, ready to hit the trails hard again. We averaged 11 minute miles for the 10 mile Prat Ave Ranger Station out & back trail run and felt pretty good afterwards. The temps were in the high 50s and the weather couldn't have been better. It helps when the trails are actually somewhat dry for a change. Tomorrow and Thursday call for 6-8 miles each of road running at an increased pace and on Wednesday, we are going to attempt hill training again for the first time in weeks. After all, the Cotton Row Run is only two and a half months away and it's time to reintroduce ourselves to "puke hill". Ten hill repeats should do for this week.
On Friday, it's back to the ranger station out & back before a long trail run on Saturday. Luckily, McKay Hollow 25K will present a nice alternative for the long run. However, I do not plan to push for pace. Instead, I'd like to keep my bad ankle in one piece;-)
