After taking off a couple of days to give my body some rest and in an effort to force myself to taper before Fuego y Agua 100K next weekend and Double Top 100M two weeks later. During Tuesday's training run, I also somehow ended up straining a groin muscle as I noticed an intense pain later on in the day.
By Friday, the pain ha subsided and I figured I could try for an easy run today. While I felt a slight twitch, it wasn't painful to run...thankfully. However, the weather was painful. Temperatures were in the 20s and the windchill had to be in the low teens at best. Every time I turned into the wind, my extremities would literally start to freeze. My legs turned numb after a while, but my upper body stayed mostly warm, thanks to a warm winter jacket, gloves, a hat and a buff. I needed all of it.
I ended up running just about 8 miles at a slow and easy 8:30 minute per mile pace. I was glad I to my run in, even though the conditions were less than ideal. Just about everyone in the Southeast area had to deal with severe winter weather conditions. Oh, and did I mention the snow flurries? Not sure how that's gonna prepare me for the hot and humid conditions I'll encounter in Nicaragua next weekend, but I guess I'll find out:-)
