After bailing on my run this morning due to thunderstorms and again during my lunch break because of flash flooding, I finally said screw it and went for my run after work today. My training schedule called for a hill workout and since I felt that last week's hill workout was too short and too easy, I reacquainted myself with "puke hill" on the Cotton Row 10K course.
I picked up Richard at his house and we headed up Monte Sano mountain until we reached Tollgate Road. The stretch from his house to the bottom of puke hill gave us just over a mile for our warmup. Once we got there, it was time to suck it up and knock out the 10 hill repeats. Boy, did it suck...the air right out of me. I felt like my heart rate was maxing out even before I completed the first repeat. But I kept going until it was done.
When I got home I couldn't wait to check out how this workout stacked up against the last one I did in July. When I looked at the numbers I couldn't believe it, I had completed each repeat between 20-30 seconds faster, almost 30% faster on average. Yet my heart rate was lower on average as well as my max. Another successful workout;-) Let's keep the streak going.
