Another great long run today on the second half of the Mountain Mist course. Temperatures were in the high 20s to low 30s when I arrived at the hiker's parking lot at Monte Sano State Park. The Huntsville Track Club had invited its members and non-members once more to meet up at 7AM to go for a training run on the Mountain Mist course and once again, more than 30 or so runners showed up.
James had decided to give his ankle another try and I met up with him at the parking lot. Ed had also decided to get a run in and even Mike was on his way. When Mike did arrive, the HTC group had already been gone for about 15 minutes, so any attempts to chase them down would have been in vain, but that didn't mean I would try anyway;-)
My goal was once again to run the entire course including its two challenging climbs and I managed to do that. The four of us stayed together during most of the run, reeling in a handful of runners before splitting up just before the final climb. James was having some problems coming back from his injury and he decided to back of the pace a little. Ed stayed with him while Mike and I continued to slowly but steadily move forward, making the final climb, breathing heavily but moving nonetheless. I completed the training run slightly slower than last weekend, but I felt good all the way. If I can hold this pace through both halves at Mountain Mist 50K in two weeks, it would be a miracle;-)
