Today called for a slow 9 miles at sub 8:30 pace and luckily, James texted me last night to see if I was up for an early morning run. Everyone else was tied up otherwise somehow and we were both confident we could run 9 miles at the target pace together.
I met up with James at his office at 5:30AM. He had just started back running after a few weeks of very little running and him and Richard were going to be running a 10K trail race this weekend during a business trip. We decided to go for a Rainbow Mountain out & back run from his office, hitting the Indian Creek Greenway on the way back to get the extra mileage needed to end up with 9 miles exactly. It worked out pretty well. The weather was excellent with temps in the low 60s, almost on the warm side. While there was rain in the forecast, I was able to count the drops that hit me on one had. Or as James put it, "the early bird avoids the downpour" (I'm paraphrasing here, I know that's not exactly what you said, buddy).
When we got back to his office, we had managed to maintain a nice 8:18 overall pace, not bad at all. I keep trying to figure out my target pace for this weekend's half marathon. My schedule calls for pace between 6:58 and 7:18, but I just don't know if I should go for the lower or higher end of the pace scale. I don't want to crash and burn, but I don't want to sell myself short, either. Decisions, decisions...
