5:30AM came fast this morning, even though I'd adjusted my sleep schedule to ensure a full 8 hours of sleep. It didn't help that it was getting colder by the day. Then again, today's training plan would require hard effort and colder temperatures would probably help us not overheat too quickly.

When I finally managed to be ready, Richard and I left my house around 5:45AM to run a figure 8 loop twice around the UAH campus. At this time of day, all you encounter is fellow runners and a couple of cars, so you can safely run your laps on the campus roads. We had to warm up for one mile before picking up the pace for 2 miles at sub 7 minute pace followed by a 400m recovery jog. We had to do this three times, followed by a one mile cool down lap. While this seemed rather ambitious to me, I remembered Richard's quote from yesterday and I just decided to suck it up and do my best to get it done. In the end, I managed to maintain the required pace on each 2 mile lap. Each time, Richard wasn't too far back behind and we both got in a great workout. Now that the tough workout is done, I am looking forward to the easier runs that remain for this week.

On tomorrow's menu, 9 miles at a "slow" sub 8:30 minute per mile pace. Not easy by any means, but doable;-)
