Day 2 of my latest 100 mile training plan. Today called for a hill workout and since Richard wasn't able to do the workout in the morning, we met up after work to knock it out. I chose the Cotton Row 10K hill, part of a very popular local 10k hill that is aptly named "puke hill" by some locals.
My workout plan called for a 1 mile warmup and cooldown with 10 hill repeats sandwiched in between. The warmup mile already prepared us for things to come. Since we started from Richard's house, we had to climb a pretty good hill just to make it to the Cotton Row hill. Once we arrived at the bottom of the hill after about 1.25 miles, Rich and I started our hill repeats, charging up the hill followed by a very slow jog back down to the bottom of the hill. The humidity was ridiculous.
Rich and I both struggled quite a bit towards the end of the workout, but I honestly held back just enough as not to collapse at the end of the workout. My legs started to feel like jello towards the end of my uphill runs and I didn't want to risk more serious issues related to the heat and humidity. I want to be sure to ease back into serious training. Tomorrow calls for a brisk 4 mile run (7 minute per mile pace) with a 1 mile warmup and cooldown.
