This run happened as a mere coincidence. We had made plans to meet up with friends of ours just outside of Atlanta to hang out and to go furniture shopping. They had driven up from Huntsville on Thursday to take care of some errands and we followed them on Saturday morning.
Once we arrived at the hotel they had booked for all of us, I realized very quickly that this hotel was just across the host hotel for the SweetH2O 50K I ran just a few weeks ago. I decided that I could not leave town until I had run along that creek again.
So with everyone sleeping in Sunday morning, I had a cup of coffee in the lobby before sneaking away to Sweetwater Creek State Park for a quick 4 mile run in the park. I figured that I had just enough time to run the white trail followed by the red trail for a nice 4 mile run and it worked out perfectly. It was quiet and as beautiful as it was last time around. I came across one hiker. It appeared everyone else was getting a late start. This time, I managed to stop for a picture of the old factory building right on the river, which is my excuse for a slower time...well, not really, but it would make a good excuse. The river was moving fairly fast, but it wasn't anywhere near the raging river we had encountered during the 50K.
What a great way to start my Sunday morning. I can't wait to come back again for next year's race.
