I have been struggling with some serious leg pain after receiving a knock to my quad in a soccer match two weeks ago and deciding to run the SweetH2O 50K just three days after. The pain has actually moved from the quad to now surround my entire upper left leg and knee area with a mix of muscle and nerve pain, keeping me from sleeping through the night. That's why I only went for a short and easy recovery run on Monday followed by nothing but rest.
However, Anya had registered the two of us for the Cookie Dash 5K months ago and while she hadn't been able to train at all due to her new job, I figured we might as well go for it. It would give me the opportunity to pace her while not pushing myself too hard at this point. She ended up having a very good race, a little slower than her PR but very well run considering she had not training at all asdide from a couple of 4 milers over the last few weeks.
The race was completely filled up even before race day. The organizers reached the maximum of participants of 500 runners even before race day. After the race, there was the traditional large buffet of cookies. Cookies, cookies, cookies as far as the eye could see. It was awesome. Anya couldn't really stomach any food right after the race, but that didn't keep me from gobbling up large amounts of Snickerdoodles, or whatever they're called.
I had to leave for Ireland just a couple of hours after the race and figured it would be great to get a nice run in before boarding the Transatlantic flight, where I would be sitting squeezed into a tiny space for 8 or 9 hours. I really enjoyed running this race with Anya and I was only slightly bothered as the front of the pack passed us in the opposite direction. There will be plenty of opportunities to chase PRs. I am actually planning on running a local 10 mile race in Ennis, Ireland while I'm there. Should be fun. I just gotta make sure I don't get lost while traying to get there by bus.

ReplyDeleteIt was great weather and I enjoyed it also. Keep up the good work.
YOU ROCK!!
ReplyDeleteThe race was organized good and the cookies were great. I wish HSV track club would post the times on their site right away, but I guess it takes time considering they don't use those electronical tabs that you attach to your shoes.
